Xbox players waking up on August 1 are now seeing significantly higher price tags on Microsoft’s current console lineup.
The company’s previously announced global price increases are now officially in effect, raising the cost of every Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X model while discontinuing the premium 2TB Xbox Series X. The changes affect North America, Europe, and the United Kingdom, making this Microsoft’s third major Xbox hardware price adjustment since 2025.

Microsoft also discontinued the Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black edition, ending production of the highest-capacity console in the lineup.
Europe and UK also see sharp increases
In the United Kingdom, the Xbox Series S (512GB) now costs £429.99, while the standard Xbox Series X reaches £669.99. Across much of Europe, the Series S starts at €499.99, with the disc-based Series X climbing to €799.99. Depending on the model, some regions are seeing increases ranging from £130 to £170 or €150 to €200
Why are prices increasing?
Microsoft says the increases are being driven by rapidly rising hardware manufacturing costs.
According to the company, memory and storage component prices have increased by more than 2.5 times over previous levels, with another major increase expected by 2027. Microsoft noted that unlike many consumer electronics, gaming consoles are often sold with little to no profit, making sustained increases in manufacturing costs difficult to absorb.
To help offset the higher prices, Microsoft is expanding several purchasing programs, including:
- Buy Now, Pay Later financing
- 0% financing options through participating retailers
- Expanded trade-in opportunities
- Certified refurbished Xbox consoles sold at discounted prices
These programs are intended to provide more affordable entry points for players despite the higher retail prices.

The announcement has generated strong reactions across social media and gaming forums.
Many players expressed frustration over the steep increases, especially as the standard Xbox Series X now carries an $800 price tag in the United States. Others pointed out that the new pricing places Xbox hardware alongside, or above, competing premium consoles, leading some users to say they’re considering switching to PC gaming or delaying hardware upgrades altogether. Reddit discussions and community comments have reflected widespread surprise at the size of the increases, with many describing them as difficult to justify for a console now several years into its lifecycle.
Looking Ahead
While Microsoft maintains that the Xbox Series S remains its most affordable way to enter the Xbox ecosystem, the latest pricing changes represent one of the largest mid-generation console price increases in recent memory.
With component costs expected to remain volatile over the next several years, it remains to be seen whether the gaming industry has reached a new pricing standard or if future hardware revisions will eventually bring costs back down.
